These three varying and strongly voiced poets
were chosen by this year’s judge, Dr Mia Stephens from
the University of South Australia.
Courtney Black is the youngest of the three
poets. Born in Adelaide in 1980 she graduated with an Arts degree
from the University of Adelaide and has mainly worked in public
administration. She currently works for Domiciliary Care as a
communications officer and edits their magazine.
Roger Higgins was born in Queensland and has
lived and worked in Chile, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and the
United States of America, as well as several locations in Australia.
Roger is a civil engineer with a MSc from the University of Aberdeen
and a PhD from the University of New South Wales.
Janine Baker was born in Queensland and lived
childhood and adolescence as an itinerant in many parts of Australia
and New Guinea. Her writing, with environmental and social themes,
is strongly influenced by those experiences. Janine works as a
non-affiliated marine scientist, and has a small, precious family.
