Chinese Whispers
This is a literary journey of an Australian writer's encounter with the culture and people of China, particularly its young writers and artists, and of the evolving influence of China on the writer's own work and life. Nicholas Jose is the author of four novels and two collections of short stories. He was Cultural Counsellor at the Australian Embassy, Beijing, between 1987 and 1990, and has taught Australian Studies in China.

Nicholas Jose’s books include the acclaimed novels Paper Nautilus, The Rose Crossing, The Custodians, The Red Thread and Original Face, as well as the non-fictional works Chinese Whispers: Cultural Essays and Black Sheep: Journey to Borroloola. He held the Chair of Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide from 2005 to 2008 and is currently a member of the University of Western Sydney’s Writing and Society Research Group.
