The Rollercoaster

A country couple's ride with IVF

Julia Masters

The Rollercoaster
The in-vitro fertilisation programme introduces Julia and Lester Masters to a mixture of delightful possibilities and medical evil necessities. The Rollercoaster shows what involvement in IVF is really like, taking the reader from days working with the Masters on their farm to the couple's first view of a tiny human embryo. This personal and moving account will surprise anyone accustomed to media portrayals of IVF and will strike a chord with all women who ache to be mothers, but are struggling to conceive and carry a child to term.

Julie Masters was born in England and has lived in Australia from the age of four. She briefly pursued a legal career before taking up farming and writing. She and her husband live on a property in the south-east of South Australia, producing merino and cross-bred wool, prime lambs and beef cattle. Five years of Julia's life were spent in infertility treatment, and this book spans the years from the Masters' marriage to the end of their involvement in the in-vitro fertilisation program.
