Wakefield Press has been around since the 1940s, when Harry Muir of Beck’s Booksellers in Adelaide, Australia, began publishing art and literary books. Today we are recognised as a leading independent Australian publisher, often hitting best-seller lists and regularly winning literary, design and production awards. In July 2000 Wakefield Press Distribution commenced distributing cherry-picked lists from like-minded independent local and overseas presses in Australia and New Zealand, and we are continuing to consolidate and expand our activities in this area.

It is our policy to work together with you to build your sales in this territory through focus and appropriate media promotion, using our in-house publicist and established media databases. Unlike most other Australian distributors Wakefield Press is not intending to take on huge lists of publishers, rather to focus on a select group of publishers who fit in with us (good production values and unique subject matter that matters), and build sales from there. We have an excellent rep force (33 humans at last count) who cover both trade and non-trade accounts (including library suppliers and school suppliers) in all territories.

We prepare a monthly flyer and associated sales kits, present materials at trade fairs and make regular presentations to the major book buyers. You can see more (mainly our lists, stocklist and fliers) at:
