Picking through the goodies on offer, the mind thinks inevitably, Hmm, could be a book in that.\u00a0And thinks too: Now, which of our existing books best fits that theme?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">One session, <a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/blast-from-the-past-getting-our-stories-on-screen\"><strong>Blast From the Past<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0is about getting our stories on screen. We have a host of possibles. Maybe a soapie set in Adelaide\u2019s first gaol, feeding off Rhonnda Harris\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1365&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><i>Ashton\u2019s Hotel <\/i><\/a>with its cast of intriguing characters. Or tales from underground, using Carol Lefevre\u2019s beautiful book of true stories, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1270&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><i>Quiet City: Walking in West Terrace Cemetery<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Then again, perhaps Simon Butters\u2019s YA novel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1290&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><em>T<\/em><i>he Hounded<\/i><\/a>, about alienation in Adelaide\u2019s hinterland, is the best screen fit. Though it works also with the question that obsesses our town \u2013<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/adelaide-is-one-of-the-world-s-most-livable-cities-fact-or-fiction\">Adelaide is one of the world\u2019s most\u00a0liveable\u00a0cities: fact or fiction?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">You can take a stroll to decide in the <a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/future-adelaide-walking-tour-anzac-memorial-walk\"><strong>Future Adelaide Walking Tour<\/strong><\/a>. Have a browse along the way in Lance Campbell\u2019s and Mick Bradley\u2019s deluxe book,\u00a0<i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1326&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">City Streets<\/a>, <\/i>which showcases the CBD in 1936 and 2011. Whither now?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dickson Platten have helped shape the Adelaide landscape through people-centric place-making since the 1960s, and you can celebrate that 50 years of achievement at the opening of their exhibition,<b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/dickson-platten-exhibition-opening-on-show\">On Show<\/a>. <\/b>We have books from both Dickson and Platten:\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=2&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">Addicted to Architecture<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1295&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">Hybrid Beauty<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and the lovely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=479&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><em>Lure of the Japanese Garden<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">From one design icon to another: the beloved Jam Factory present<b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/drink-dine-design\">Drink. Dine. Design.<\/a><\/b>\u00a0featuring\u00a0finely\u00a0crafted objects, ideas and applications that enhance the joy of eating and drinking. Learn more about the Jam Factory in its\u00a0fortieth-anniversary book,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1134&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">Designing Craft \/ Crafting Design<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Nick Jose has written both fiction (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=52&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><em>Avenue of Eternal Peace<\/em><\/a>)\u00a0and non-fiction (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=134&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><em>Chinese Whispers<\/em><\/a>)\u00a0about China, so its no surprise to see him as one of the co-curators of<b><a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/writing-china\"> Writing China<\/a><em>,<\/em><\/b> a day-long series of transcultural, transmedia events. Brian Castro is a prominent participant, likely mentioning\u00a0his novel\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=9&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">On China<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(and why not also\u00a0add\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=893&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><em>Drift <\/em><\/a>and\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=204&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\">Double-Wolf<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>to your bedside reading pile).<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Among\u00a0the many events that make up Writing China is<b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/openstate.com.au\/events\/reimagining-panel-and-readings\">Reimagining: Panel and Readings<\/a>.\u00a0<\/b>This panel considers how fiction can take the world you know \u2013 your city \u2013 and make it new. A full-on accompaniment might be\u00a0Stephen Orr and his latest book of short stories, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldpress.com.au\/product.php?productid=1356&amp;cat=0&amp;page=1\"><em>Datsunland<\/em><\/a>. In the words of Kerryn Goldsworthy in the <em>Sydney Morning Herald<\/em>,\u00a0&#8216;[Orr&#8217;s] work continues to have a prominent place in the literary mapping and recording of South Australia and Adelaide&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For the last weekend of the festival, we&#8217;ll be selling our wares at the annual\u00a0State History Conference.
