We’re delighted to officially announce the acquisition of\u00a0world\u00a0rights to Libby Trainor Parker’s\u00a0debut\u00a0book, with the working title of\u00a0Endo Days: Life, Love and Laughs with Endometriosis,\u00a0<\/i>which Wakefield Press will publish in\u00a02021.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

One in ten people in Australia are living with endometriosis and countless others are supporting them, caring for them, championing various treatments and being impacted by this incurable condition.\u00a0Endo Days\u00a0<\/i>is a look at the stories of those within the endo community, as told to journalist and educator\u00a0Libby Trainor Parker<\/span><\/a>, who was diagnosed with endometriosis aged thirty-six, and has dedicated the past seven years to finding the lighter side of chronic illness.\u00a0Endo\u00a0Days\u00a0<\/i>is a frank, often funny and honest memoir told in a\u00a0narrative journalism style, with\u00a0Libby’s\u00a0own story as the central narrative, drawing on interviews with others with endometriosis (both women, men and\u00a0non-binary), their partners \u2013 male and female, doctors and specialists, researchers and the wider endo community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

‘When I was diagnosed with endometriosis 17 years after first presenting with symptoms, I threw myself into trying to make a difference for others,’ says Libby. ‘The whole endo road has been bumpy, rocky, sad, and at times utterly hilarious, and I want to share everything I’ve learned to help others manage this illness too.’<\/h1>\n

Wakefield’s associate publisher Jo Case approached Libby to write the book after reading\u00a0her\u00a0account of living with endometriosis shared\u00a0with\u00a0a SA parliamentary briefing<\/span><\/a>, and media coverage of\u00a0the endometriosis awareness program she co-wrote and taught in SA schools<\/span><\/a>, as well as Queensland and Victoria \u2013 now being rolled out nationwide, funded by state and federal governments and created by Pelvic Pain Foundation Australia (of which Libby served a term as a director of the board). Jo\u00a0compares Libby’s ability to combine humour, storytelling and solidly\u00a0researched health information with Monica Dux and Kaz Cooke.<\/span><\/p>\n

‘I was struck by Libby’s\u00a0terrifically charismatic\u00a0writing voice and\u00a0ability to motivate through stories, combined with her lived experience and\u00a0acquired\u00a0authority on this issue. I know that endometriosis is a\u00a0condition\u00a0that intimately affects the lives of so many women, that the earlier the diagnosis, the better the outcome \u2013 and that it’s been chronically\u00a0overlooked for a long time, with seriously\u00a0damaging consequences.\u00a0A book like Libby’s has the potential to really raise awareness,\u00a0and provide companionship and comfort to\u00a0others with the condition.’<\/span><\/p>\n

Libby wrote and performed a sold-out comedy cabaret Adelaide Fringe show on endometriosis,\u00a0Endo the Road<\/i>, this year, which was warmly received. She plans to reprise it when the book is published in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

‘Through writing this book, I’ve met so many incredible people and heard their stories of bravery, resilience and strength; of heartache, frustration and perseverance,’ says Libby. ‘Endo patients are a solid bunch of people and, while it’s a pretty heavy illness, we’ve found plenty to laugh about.’<\/span><\/p>\n
