We’re pleased to announce the winner of the May WWWC: Rob Carney<\/a>. Responding to the prompt ‘I turned to see’, Rob’s poem ‘The Librarian’s Story’ is an ode to reading, the value of libraries, and looking back on the stories of our childhoods.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Librarian’s Story<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Most times when I read, the words speak low
in the voice of my brother. Low<\/p>\n\n\n\n

so our parents won\u2019t hear and turn off the light
as if nights are for sleeping\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It seemed like the words had wheels attached,<\/em>
like they were riding down the road of a story<\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but right now my break is over
so I head back to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a book in the stacks for every loneliness
we\u2019re filled with, every love<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we\u2019ve felt feathering or lifting
from the inside out,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

which is maybe why the library\u2019s moving.
I turn to see it rolling<\/p>\n\n\n\n

down the afternoon avenue,
then rising past stoplights and pigeons,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

all the onlookers smiling and waving
while the words wave back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
