Fables Queer and Familiar

Margaret Merrilees, Chia Moan

Fables Queer and Familiar
Is your phone smarter than you are?
Why does the weather map turn purple, and how do you protect your tomatoes when it does?
And just what do you do with a lesbian grandmother?

Fables Queer and Familiar is a wry, affectionate look at the lives of two lesbian grannies, their friends, family and community. Anyone who knows an ageing activist will recognise the combination of good intentions and aching joints. And anyone who has been young will identify with the children as they try to make sense of a mystifying adult world.

Fables Queer and Familiar, which started life as the online serial 'Adelaide Days', is also broadcast by Radio Adelaide.

Praise for Fables Queer and Familiar:
'I wish I could live in the hilarious, delightful, and very queer world of these Fables.' - Alison Bechdel

'Fables: Queer and Familiar is a lighthearted, odd and delightful novel about unconventional families. It depicts youthful rebels in old age, and normalises same-sex families.' - Catalina Bonati, Lip Mag

'I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard out loud while reading a book - it’s downright funny ... A fabulous story that everyone will enjoy.' - Kate Dodd, The Chronicle

'I’m impressed by an author who dares to take on so many contemporary issues and express values that matter ... And I enjoyed the comic approach to the serious stuff.' - Lisa Hill, ANZ Litlovers Litblog
