Further Fables Queer and Familiar

Margaret Merrilees, Chia Moan

Further Fables Queer and Familiar
Victoria is delighted to help Gran unscrew the U-bend. She always guessed there was another world beyond the plughole.

Welcome to the hidden complexities of life in an ordinary Australian suburb. Who will fix the plumbing? How do you adapt to a trans person in the family? How do you end racism and make a safe haven for refugees, or keep up with the housework? And what on Earth do you do about the climate emergency?

Here at last, between these two covers, we present the complete instructions for being a lesbian granny.

Praise for Further Fables Queer and Familiar

'Merrilees says that her fables are "the complete instructions for being a lesbian granny" but there’s always a wider audience for tales that teach us about life … and Aesop didn’t include stories about coming to terms with gender fluidity.' - Lezley Herbert, Out in Perth

Margaret Merrilees's award-winning novel The First Week was published in 2013. Fables Queer and Familiar started online and were broadcast as a radio serial. The book was published in 2014. Her most recent novel Big Rough Stones is the back-story, in novel form, of some of the characters from the Fables.

Chia Moan is a feminist, artist and concerned citizen. Her poster and organising work recently featured in a large retrospective at the Hackney Museum in London. Women on Screens showcased the work of the Lenthall Road Workshop, which she co-founded. It ran from the 1970s until the 90s. Chia lives in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales where she soaks up nature through bushwalking and plein air painting.
