Featuring the work of pioneering aerial photographers, this book takes you on a journey through history. From the city to the bay, from vineyards to shipyards, discover South Australia's heritage and 21st century transformation from a unique perspective as we explore South Australia from above.
As a commercial pilot and engineer, Paul Dare brought more than 25 years' experience to producing the contemporary photographs for South Australia From Above, drawing on his knowledge of photogrammetry, imaging technologies and aerial surveying. After reading physics at the University of Oxford, Paul completed a PhD in Remote Sensing at University College London, where he developed an interest in satellite, radar and airborne imaging technologies.
In 2003, Paul moved to Adelaide with his family and a newly awarded commercial pilot's licence. He grasped the opportunity to apply his academic research to the commercial world when he set up Spatial Scientific Technologies, his airborne imaging company, in 2005.
A photographer since childhood, Paul soon developed a reputation as one of Australia's leading airborne imaging experts, applying new technologies to aerial survey in a range of contexts including bushfire mapping, environmental monitoring and primary industries. Today, his customers extend from Australia to South Africa, Europe, North America and over Antarctica, as his company continues to design airborne imaging systems and deliver imagery.
