P(ICT)ures of English

Teachers, learners and technology

Cal Durrant, Catherine Beavis

P(ICT)ures of English
English teachers are becoming increasingly conscious of the challenges presented by Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and the need for English curriculum to prepare young people for a digital world. P(ICT)ures of English draws on a wide range of classroom and real world experiences to discuss the challenges ICTs pose to teaching the subject English.

Cal Durrant is Chair of Initial Teacher Education and lectures in English Curriculum and Media Education at Murdoch University. He was a member of the national research team that reported to DEETYA on the ways technology and literacy were being perceived and employed in Australian schools and has been involved in a number of projects that have applied IT to various aspects of teaching and learning. Cal is on the Executive Council of the Australian Association for the Teaching of English and also serves on the Editorial Board of English in Australia.
