David Macfarlane

David Macfarlane was born in Perth, Western Australia, but lived in half a dozen places – including a small dairy farm in Victoria, suburban Adelaide, Kuala Lumpur, and a Melbourne boarding school – before spending his teenage years in Sydney. His first job after leaving school was with a carnival, travelling between outback showgrounds, followed by brickie’s labouring, fruit picking, fencing, and, after travelling the world, pulling beer in a London pub. He eventually started a building business in Sydney and completed a degree in architecture before deciding to sell everything he owned, move to a Great Barrier Reef island, and build his own version of paradise.
