BAD Sydney: Plots With Pride
When BAD Sydney began in 2016, it was almost impossible to encounter major LGBTIQA+ characters in mainstream Australian crime novels. Ten years on and queer authors are having such an impact that even straight writers have embarked on a level of inclusion that is taking the genre into new communities, settings and themes. In Plots With Pride: Queering the past and present in crime fiction, authors Fiona Kelly MacGregor, Hayley Scrivenor, Troy Hunter and Georgia Harper, together with moderator Michael McBurge, delve into historical representations of queerness in crime fiction, as well as their own approaches to writing diverse characters.
