I remember when I first read Catch Tilly's powerful YA debut, Otherwise Known as Pig. I Catch Tillywas surprised that a hard-hitting and dark topic like schoolyard bullying could be packaged in such an engaging short novel.
Now I think that is part of what makes this book special. I love the idea that a story can be many things at once – funny, entertaining and immersive – yet also powerful, gritty and filled with ideas and themes to make readers stop and think.
As reviews for this debut can attest, Catch Tilly's book definitely is making readers stop and think.

'Otherwise Known as Pig is hard to put down and very difficult to read. It is both distressing and powerful … This story touches on racism, intelligence, the lack of supervision in a school yard and in classrooms, teenage relationships, and trying to find a place in the world where you just might possibly be able to be yourself … This is a powerful story and one which is well worth a read. It encourages us to stand up to bullies or at the very least, if you see someone being bullied, tell someone.' FIVE STARS.

Otherwise Known as Pig already has accompanying Teacher Notes (which can be found on the Wakefield Press website) but now Catch has also launched a video series to dig a little deeper.
