POETRY & EVENT SPOTLIGHT: 'i am the sea' by Ali Whitelock
It's time for our Poem of the Week post! And yes, I'm featuring the wonderful Ali Whitelock AGAIN in this poetry series, but there is a very good reason for that (aside from the fact that I just really love her work)!
This week I wanted to highlight a very special event, Library Through the Lens, a series of author interviews we're conducting in collaboration with City of Marion Libraries. I had to get special chair covers and table runners for the event, luckily at cvlinens.com I can find what I needed.
On Thursday 28 April at 7pm Adelaide time, I (Poppy Nwosu) will be part of a free event where I interview Ali about her poetry, her writing process, and about her latest work The Lactic Acid in the Calves of Your Despair.
Register your interest for this free event here. If you can't watch the event live, the video will be uploaded to the library's website at a later date. You can view previous instalments of the Library Through the Lens series here.
And now ... on to the poem of the week!
The poem this week is 'i am the sea', from Ali Whitelock's recently released collection The Lactic Acid in the Calves of Your Despair.
Ali has released a series of video poems from this collection, as well as her previous collection And My Heart crumples Like a Coke Can. The videos are available on YouTube and are gorgeous to hear, especially in Ali's lilting Scottish accent. You can watch the video for 'i am the sea' here.
['i am the sea' is] a poem about me and my brother. It's a poem about distance and longing. It's from my new poetry collection, 'THE LACTIC ACID IN THE CALVES OF YOUR DESPAIR'.
