Globetrotter and author Heather Caddick never follows the path most travelled. Wherever she goes, she has learnt that to understand a country you need to meet its people and the best way to do this is to visit a hairdresser.
In Hair and There, her latest book, we visit Iran in peaceful times and enter the private world of women's grooming. A chat in German over a blow drier with Adriana during a trip to Czech Republic just after the Velvet Revolution reveals a newfound spirit of optimism. And in Dubai, where a trip to the hairdresser is wedged between strolls through the spice markets, we learn about the art of threading.
Born and educated in Adelaide, Heather Caddick has had a diverse career spanning kindergarten teaching to stockbroking and investment. She has always been passionate about voluntary work, encompassing conservation of wildlife and humanitarian causes in Africa. When she is not travelling, she lives in Adelaide with her husband, Alfie.
