Keeping a Trust

South Australia's Wyatt Benevolent Institution and its founder

Dr William Wyatt, emigrated to the new colony of South Australia in 1837. He became a notable pioneer and briefly held government positions including coroner and protector of Aborigines, but his major interests and influence were in the fields of cultural development, medicine and education.

Keeping a Trust tells the story of the life of William Wyatt, and how when he approached the end of his days without an heir, he arranged to place his assets into a trust and instructed that it be used for South Australians experiencing poverty. The Wyatt Benevolent Institution was formed and since then has grown to become one of Australia's leading philanthropic institutions.
