Jack Hibberd has written over sixty plays, including A Stretch of the Imagination, Dimboola, A Toast to Melba, The Les Darcy Show, Captain Midnight VC, One of Nature's Gentlemen, Three Old Friends, The Overcoat and Peggy Sue.
He has published three novels: Memoirs of an Old Bastard (1989), The Life of Riley (1990) and Perdita (1992), and three volumes of poetry: Le Vin des Amants (1977), The Genius of Human Imperfection (1998) and Madrigals for a Misanthrope.
Jack Hibberd graduated from Melbourne University in 1964. He worked as a medical practitioner for many years and retired in 2019 from his position as a specialist allergist at a Frankston clinic. Over the years he has been a member of both the Literature Board and the Theatre Board of the Australia Council. He also held the Vice Chancellor's Fellowship at the University of Melbourne through 2019 and was the Founding Chair of the Australian Performing Group at the Pram Factory in Carlton.
His son, Spike Hibberd, is a graphic designer working in New York where he designed the cover for this book.
