Taplin Family Business

Taplin Family Business

I have never wished to train as a doctor and spend my time saving lives. Nor was I interested in becoming a politician to improve our great nation. No other profession really fascinated me! I just wanted to be involved in a lucrative career associated with real estate and build upon the accomplishments of my predecessor.

Noel Taplin, only 24 years of age, resolved to be manager of an Adelaide real estate office against vigorous competition. Not only did he survive, he promptly built a successful sales team and started a thriving property management division.

Not satisfied, in 1958, against strong opposition from his father, he formed an investment and development company, Realty Holdings Ltd, with a paid-up capital of $43,560. Noel, as manager, transformed this organisation into the parent company of the hugely successful Taplin Group.

Following his father's death in 1970, Noel moved his attention to the new realm of retail shopping centres - Marden, Mitcham and Mawson Lakes, among others, have benefited from his expertise and sharp business brain.

Taplin Family History is the story of the changing face of Adelaide's real estate and retail scene. It is an insight into the world of a pioneer who had the courage to look to the future and change the way we shop while successfully balancing work and family life, and travelling the world.
