Ulla-Lena Lundberg is a well-known Finnish-Sweden author living in Finland. She has written both fiction and fact and is best known for her award-winning novels, which include a trilogy on Aland shipping and Ice, set on the remote island of Kokar where she was born. br>
Pamela Eriksson, nee Bourne in 1905, grew up in South Africa and was educated in England. As a young journalist she took a passage on the Herzogin Cecilie from Australia to England in 1934. She married the captain, Sven Eriksson, and wrote a book, The Duchess, on her voyages on the ship. Pamela Eriksson died in Aland in 1984. Pamela's daughter Freya Darby has lived in the Aland Islands since the 1960s. Her discovery of her mother's photographs of her journeys led to the publication of this book.
