WAKEFIELD NEWS: Release date for Snow

Wakefield Press announces that Snow, the young adult dystopian Snow White retelling by debut author Gina Inverarity, will be released 01 April 2020!

If you are an eagle-eyed follower of Wakefield Press news, you may have noticed that our original publication date for Snow was actually later in 2020.
We want to give Snow the absolute best chance to find readers who will love this book as much as we do. With the future so uncertain at the moment, we have therefore decided that the best step is to bring the publication date of Snow forward by one month to 01 April 2020.
Here is our YA Publisher Margot Lloyd speaking on Snow:

'Changing a release date – especially this late in the game – is not a decision I take lightly, but I think it’s the right thing to do for this book.
When I first read Snow, I thought the Voyagers and the sickness that overtook them – and the castle village that closed its doors – were an apt metaphor for asylum seekers trying to get to Australia.
I didn’t realise how relevant this story would become.
As supply chains shut down around the world, I’ve realised it’s better to rush this story out now than let it wait.
Gina writes about a world become strange – and the illnesses, migrations and privations it will bring. (In Snow, the world is transformed by the effects of climate change.)
She also writes about how a teenage girl can survive in these topsy-turvy times. How she can make the most of situations in which very little is offered to her, how she can be resourceful, brave, and far stronger than she looks.
So, yes, we have changed the release date, and I’m very sorry for any confusion that has caused. But now the book is available, and now, I think, is exactly the time it needs to be read.'

Snow by Gina Inverarity

When the girl brought my bowl she was in and out through the door like she couldn't move fast enough. And when the lock clicked after her I found something she'd left. A knife. And not one for spreading butter, but a sharp one for slitting throats.
Locked in a cell by her stepmother, Snow grows small but she still grows. Even so, she's hardly a match for a world gone wild, where the sun has disappeared behind clouds for good. The night the hunter takes her into the forest with orders to cut out her heart, Snow makes him a promise she isn't sure she can keep. And then she runs.
Snow's life is no fairytale. As she grows up her path will take her into the mountains, over misty passes, desolate gorges and alpine rivers, as well as to the city, where she will make her case for the return of what is hers.
And her childish promise will not be forgotten.
A dark and lyrical Snow White retelling set in a post-climate-change world, Snow is a fairytale of the future.
